Who can apply
Canadian companies at least 51% First Nations, Inuit or Métis owned and controlled
Limited to Canada. More than one test applies, such as where you live and where your company is. Also limited to first Nations, Inuit and Métis.
What you get
Up to CAD 50,000 for features and series, or CAD 25,000 for shorts, web and immersive
| Features and television | CAD 50,000 | 5% rule / small-budget exemption; not production finance. |
|---|---|---|
| Shorts, webseries and immersive | CAD 25,000 | Alternative format cap, not additive. |
| Application accessibility support | CAD 500 | Per application; yearly cap CAD1,000; ask at least two weeks ahead. |
| Details | Up to CAD50,000 features/TV or CAD25,000 shorts/web/immersive; conditional percentage limit. |
Amounts stay in the currency the organiser uses. Caps, totals and alternatives are listed as published; don’t add them up.
What it costs
The official page didn’t state an entry fee when we read it on 17 Oct 2026. That isn’t the same as free: check the form before you count on it.
What to bring
- Budget, schedule and cut are essential: absence is an immediate ineligibility ground. Do not assume a generic document-correction period cures those omissions.
Terms to read first
| Obligations | Do not spend before applying and assume reimbursement. About 2–3 months plus holiday delays. Previous MPD-funded projects cannot reapply. |
|---|
Our notes, not legal advice. Read the contract before you accept a place or grant any rights.
