Who can apply
NZ citizens or permanent residents holding the rights, with qualifying credits
Limited to New Zealand. More than one test applies, such as where you live and where your company is.
What you get
Up to NZ$35,000 per tranche, capped at NZ$140,000 in total per project
| Normal development tranche | NZD 35,000 | Higher exception only by agreement; not an entitlement. |
|---|---|---|
| Cumulative per-film development limit | NZD 140,000 | Shared across this film’s NZFC/devolved development history; never add to a tranche. |
| Details | Normally NZD35,000 per tranche; NZD140,000 lifetime development ceiling, not one new award. |
Amounts stay in the currency the organiser uses. Caps, totals and alternatives are listed as published; don’t add them up.
What it costs
The official page didn’t state an entry fee when we read it on 17 Oct 2026. That isn’t the same as free: check the form before you count on it.
What to bring
- Full script normally; live-action treatment exception is not automatic. Animation may use treatment plus 10–20 script pages.
Terms to read first
| Obligations | Mandatory pre-application hui. Subsequent tranches have stronger producer requirements. Resubmission needs significant changes; after two successive declines a waiver is required. Disclose proposed AI use; obtain consent for third-party personal information. |
